Maximize Space in Your Custom Built Home

Building a custom home is a great experience. But sticking within your budget can be difficult. When figuring out how much your new home is going to cost, you usually have to think in terms of square footage. But there are ways to increase your square footage and still save. For example, building up by adding a second story on the house is less expensive than building out, because that’s less area that will need a foundation and roof coverage. I started this blog to help you find ways to get the space that you need in your custom home, without having to spend more than you can afford. Building my custom home was the best money I ever spent, and I’m happy to help you learn how to get the custom home you want.

2 Ways To Make Sure That You Keep Your Garage Secure

Construction & Contractors Blog

When you have an automatic garage door opener, there are a lot of things that you really don't think about. One of those things is security. You want to make sure that your house is secure and no one can get into your house through your garage. There are some very easy things that you can do to make sure that your garage door stays secure.

Ditch the Remote

Well, you don't really want to ditch it completely, but you do want to get rid of the large remote that stays in your garage. It's easy for those remotes to be cloned by someone who gets into your car, and if they get into your car, they can get your address too. That means that they can find your house and get into it. There are easy ways to handle it. One of them is to get a smaller remote that attaches to your car keys or stays in your pocket. If you have one that stays on your keys, then you should get a detachable key ring for it. That will let you hand someone like a mechanic or valet your car key while you keep your garage door remote in your pocket.

Get a Stronger Door

Another thing you can do to make your garage more secure is to get a new garage door altogether. There are a wide variety of garage doors that you can choose from, including strong metal doors. Since the garage door opener's motor will do the work of pulling up the door, you don't have to worry so much about how heavy it would be if you have to lift it. If you do get a door that is heavier, then you may also have to have the opener beefed up so that it can easily open the door, or if you have the space, you can get a door that doesn't open by going up but one that opens out, like a regular door would do. You may be able to get a heavier, more secure door that way. The nice thing is that you can get a secure door without it having to look all that secure since the doors can be painted or disguised.

Having an automatic garage door will make your life easier. You want to make sure that you don't sacrifice security for having that convenience. There are things you can do that will help that. To learn more, contact a company like Dorsey Garage Doors
